An endemic Blue Duck (Whio) stands on a rock in the Manganui o te Ao River, central North Island. These birds inhabit fast moving rivers in New Zealand. In many areas they have been pushed to local extinction due to predators, but in some areas with good predator control, they have made a comeback.
